There have been many lies perpetrated on the American people. The most visible are ultimately the least harmful. The lie about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, or the involvement of Saddam Husein and Al Qaida, while being supposed reasons for war, were not in themselves what gave the authority. The authority to go to war in a pre-emptive way was never expressly given at all, in fact the constitution strictly states that war must be declared by an act of congress. No such declaration has been made since World War II. The lie that the government has the authority to go to war without the declaration of war from our elected representatives has done more damage to our safety, wealth and well being then almost any other.
At this critical time in history we are witnessing the culmination of all the lies we have been told. The lie that credit will be fine and we no longer need to save. The lie that we can pay for our guns and butter by printing more money. The lie that involving ourselves in the building and manipulation of sovereign nations is the only way to preserve our safety and place in this world. The lie that the government is here to protect you. The lie that the government has the authority or the the right to tax your labor. And the most heinous, the lie that you must give up any amount of your liberty for security.
Here and now we must learn the truth. The truth that the constitution was written to restrain the government. The truth that only through free market and charity can we solve the problems of poverty and crime. The truth that our greatest asset is our people and their ability to create and communicate and organize. The truth that an interventionist foreign policy inhibits our ability to prosper from trade and encourages hatred for us abroad. The truth that we have been lied to, for so long, that many of us were born being told that the lie was the truth. As we stand at this edge in history we will decide in ourselves what values we hold and what it means to be a Patriot and an American. In my heart I know that only in Liberty and Justice to believe, and that I would rather die then to see my son grow up and grow old in a world where he had neither. And you know in your heart what it means to you, then the truth will set you free.
